How to Know Why Pilot Light on BOSCH Keeps Going Out

So your BOSCH pilot light keeps going out?

If every time you want to have shower, there’s no hot water coming out, and you need to keep relighting your BOSCH pilot light, you may have the same issue with the one we came across.

Worry not, we’re here to help!

In this video, we came across an issue with the Bosch 10P in our client’s house. They would have a shower, and when they turned the water off, the pilot light would go out. So they have to keep relighting it. When we came down to test it, we found out that the main burner wouldn’t go out even after we shut the whole unit down. That means all the water would turn into steam. It would keep boiling and bubbling, which is not a good thing.

The good news is, BOSCH has a safety device called “Over Temp Switch”.

What does it do?

When the water temperature gets really hot (like in this case where it keeps boiling and bubbling) until like, say, 99 degree, the switch would automatically shut the circuit out until the gas and everything is off, making it safe again.

So what happened was the diaphragm, which was going up and down as the gas is turning on and off, got stuck on top. So it was harder and longer for it to come back down and turn the gas off. That’s what made the water kept boiling and getting really hot. Then the Over Temp Switch automatically shut everything down including the pilot light.

This is why it’s important to give your hot water system a full service every TWO years. Or else it will start playing up like in this case.
