You Need to Check The Flue on Your Storage HWS Now

Have you ever checked the flue on your storage hot water system?

If you own a storage hot water system, it’s a good idea to check on the flue. In the video below, we show you why this is important.

At this job, the storage hot water system was leaking. We thought the tank was probably gone, so we came to see what the best option was to fix this issue. We came across an issue that we would like to show you.

The real problem

If you have a storage hot water system, make sure you check the flue. In this video, we show you how the flue on this hot water system has black soot all over it. You shouldn’t have much black soot at all around any of your flues.

Some flues are located on the top like in the video, some are at the front of the system. So if you have any soot or some kind of other build ups, there’s something seriously wrong, either the flue is blocked or the burner is not burning correctly (the flame is really yellow), and that’s what caused this.

In this case, the injector for the main burner has been blocked a bit and caused the flame to burst and melt the foam installation above it and everything. So that’s been burning away for quite a while now, trying to get the oxygen and the mix right. As you can see, it is in a pretty bad condition now.

Without taking the door off, you wouldn’t have any idea that’s been going on. But if you see any soot in the flue, that’s a sign you need to get this sorted – get a plumber to take out the burner and clean it all out including the flues.

So, if you have a storage hot water system, it’s very important to check this out. You don’t want to have fire going on on the side of your house. This doesn’t happen to often, but better safe than sorry.
