Do you have a hot water system in a cupboard?
You’d want to know this. Our client had a leaking hot water system in a cupboard and couldn’t turn it off.
Keep watching, and we’ll show you how we deal with this issue.
Is your leaking hot water system installed in a cupboard?
We had a job in a school and their hot water system was installed inside a cupboard. It had a safe tray so if there’s any water leaking, it wouldn’t be leaking onto the cupboard. But they used a floor flange for the plugs, so the water could leak through the hole onto the cupboard.
One of the valves was leaking, so the water was dripping into the cupboard. They couldn’t turn it off, because the isolation valve was right at the back of the cupboard. If you’re not a plumber, it’s hard for you to figure out where it was. It’s also hard to get to it and replace it.
The temperature control valve needs to be serviced every couple of years, and theirs definitely needed replacement with all the calcium build-up on it.
So what we did was taking the whole unit out, replacing it with a new one and making all the valves accessible. You can check out the new set up in the video, with a plastic safe tray and a drain, as well as tags on the valves so it’s easier to find. All the valves are accessible so it’s gonna be easy to service in the future.
So if you have a hot water system installed in a cupboard, make sure you ask your plumber if it’s the best practice for the future service and all.
